AIA Premier League: 1st Week Roundup

Sri Lanka’s domestic 3 day tournament started last Friday under the title sponsorship of AIA insurance. None of the six matches could produce results as the matches either ended up in a draw or no result was possible, thanks to the inclement weather. Here are some of the interesting achievements made by Sri Lankan domestic cricket players during past 3 days.

  • Tamil Union & Athletic Club front line pacer Nisala Tharaka Gamage took 7 wickets for 50 against Colombo cricket club. It was his career best spell and 15th best for Tamil Union.
  • First 100 of the 2015/16 season came from Ragama Cricket Club opener Lahiru Milantha. He scored 144 against Moors Sports Club, which included 6 massive sixes and 13 boundaries. This innings was the best of his career and was the only  innings in excess of fifty for Ragama CC.
  • Last season top wicket taker Malinda Pushpakumara (Moors SC) started this season in style with his 31st 5 wicket haul (5/87) against Ragama CC. As he picked up the wicket of Eranga, Ratnayake Pushpakumara (425*) surpassed former test all-rounder Chandika Hathurusinghe’s total first class wicket tally of 424.
  • Sri lanka Army Sports Club star batsman Asela Gunaratne scored his 9th test hundred today against Baduraliya Sports Club. Gunaratne was the highest runs scorer for Army SC in the last season and started this year with an unbeaten 124 (3x6s & 8x4s).
